How to Set Up Valentine One Radar Detector
If you want to get the most out of the Valentine One radar detector, you will have to play around with the settings for a while. Many third-party apps can help you minimize false alerts and make this device much more effective overall. It is important that you take the time to learn how to configure this radar detector just right before getting started. In the end, you will find that it is well worth the effort.
Valentine One Settings Setup
First, we are going to take a look at the various settings that the Valentine One radar detector as well as the Gen 2 have to offer.
Junk K Fighter/BSM Filter
The Junk K Fighter option helps reduce false alerts for K-band signals. You can only take advantage of this feature if you have V1 3.894 or later. If you have an older version, you will want to upgrade as soon as possible.
GPS Lockouts
Make sure that you enable GPS lockouts with YaV1 when configuring this device. This feature remembers recurring false alerts and ignores them. It is only available for Android users, but it can help with filtering out annoying false alerts that you have to pass regularly.
Low-Speed Muting
You will also want to enable the low-speed muting feature when you are driving through more urban areas. Once you activate it you will no longer have to deal with irritating audio notifications when you are in traffic or going below the speed limit. Both Android and iPhone users can take advantage of this convenient function.
Disable Unneeded Bands
The Valentine One will allow you to disable specific bands that you don’t need to receive alerts for. This will help quite a bit with reducing unnecessary notifications while you are driving. Just make sure that you only disable bands that you know for a fact are not going to be an issue.
Custom Sweeps
You can use the Custom Sweeps option to enhance the overall performance of this radar detector. It will prevent this device from scanning Ka frequencies that have nothing but false alerts.
Setting up the V1connection Mobile App
The V1connection mobile app, which is available for both Android and iOS users, will allow you to program this radar detector for optimal performance.
Requirements
To use the V1connection mobile app, you must have at least version 3.892. Those who have an older version won’t be able to take advantage of the Bluetooth connectivity function. You also need the app itself, which is available through the iTunes Store and Google Play Store. As long as your smartphone was made in the last several years, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Create Your Profile
One of the great things about the V1connection app is that you can create multiple profiles with unique setting configurations. If you are using this app for the first time, you will need to create your first profile. This can be very helpful and convenient when you need to quickly change your radar detector’s settings while on the road. It will also allow you to play around with different configurations to see what works best.
You can create a profile by simply navigating to the main screen and selecting “Profiles” in the upper left corner. Select “Create New Profile” and set a name for it. It’s a good idea to choose a name that best describes the configuration.
Special
Before you go any further, you will need to select the “Special” tab and enable “Euro Mode”. By doing this you will now have full access to all of this radar detector’s features so you can make the most of it.
Some of the settings in this menu include:
- Valentine Mode: This option will let you decide if you just want the Ka-band or K band as well. You don’t need to worry too much about this setting, as you can go back and forth between these two bands by simply pressing and holding the button at the front of the device.
- Dark Mode: Enabling this setting will let you turn off this radar detector’s display completely. If you are trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, this setting is quite useful. You can refer to your phone for signal strength details.
- Alert Persistence: Instead of alerts simply disappearing, they will slowly fade away when this setting is enabled. If you keep catching yourself looking back at the decision when the alert goes away, you might want to use this feature.
The JBV1 is also a good companion app for Valentine radar detectors.
Band Options
This app will allow you to enable and disable several bands at any time. The V1 can detect laser signals better than almost any other device on the market. It does have some issues with false alerts, which can quickly become annoying. Those who aren’t using laser jammers will want to keep this option enabled at all times. Just remember that there will most likely be quite a few false alerts, especially in urban areas.
While it’s nice that this radar detector can pick up on the Euro X band, there isn’t much need for it in the U.S. You will want to keep it enabled if you are driving in Oregon, Ohio or New Jersey.
Mute Control
The Mute Control section in the settings will allow you to modify the muted volume. If you are picky about this sort of thing, it is nice to have the option to set it just how you want. There is also a setting called bogey-lock volume after muting, which allows you to control the volume of the tone that plays when new threats are detected.
The K Band Muting section in the settings offers many options that you should explore. You will be able to determine how much time passes before the alert is automatically muted. You can also enable an option that will unmute the volume when a signal becomes increasingly strong.
Savvy Settings
Savvy is an accessory that works with the Valentine One radar detector and plugs directly into the vehicle’s OBD-II port. It will allow you to see how fast your vehicle is traveling at any given time. You will be able to mute audio alerts when your speed drops below a specific number. If you are tired of all the alerts, this is a great way to get some peace and quiet.
The “unmute” option that this accessory offers will bring the volume back up to a normal level once your vehicle begins traveling over the pre-determined speed. There is also the Override Savvy Thumbwheel, which allows you to cancel out the speed you set on this accessory.
In-the-Box
The “In-the-Box” section in the settings of this app will let you automatically mute signals that are coming from nearby drivers that are using a Cobra radar detector. This can be extremely useful when it comes to reducing the occurrence of false alerts.
There are a series of boxes that you will have to choose from that can be enabled or disabled at any time. You can enable certain boxes to mute signals that aren’t being filtered. Since Cobra radar detectors have a major problem with signal leakage, it is highly recommended that you use these boxes.
The In-the-Box Unmuting option will instantly unmute signals within the designated range that could be silenced by other settings.
Background Notifications
You can decide which background notifications you want to receive notifications for. Select default settings if you don’t know which ones you want to enable. The alerts will be displayed on your phone at the top of the screen. All you have to do is tap on the banner that appears to re-access the app quickly. These notifications can get annoying, so you may discover that you are better off without them.
Save Your Profile
After you have configured all of the above settings to your liking, you will save your profile by simply clicking the Save button at the top. All of the settings in your profile will be sent to your radar detector. The transferring process only takes a few seconds, and you will see a confirmation message appear when it has finished.
Third-Party Apps
There are multiple third-party apps that you can use with the V1 for iOS and Android users. Take some time to explore these options so that you can decide on the right ones to use with your radar detector. V1Driver is just one third-party app that you can use, and it offers low-speed muting with GPS lockouts.
